Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American TV journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. In the year 1967, Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. Mitchell joined CBS subsidiary WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. In Washington she was made general correspondent by NBC News two year later. The year 1981 saw her begin reporting on the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. Then, in 1992 she was appointed chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell hosted and was a panelist at the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell was on an audience for the 1988 presidential debates featuring George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell was married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. In 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) was honoured Mitchell for her contribution in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first reporter to write about White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan as president from 1981-1988. Mitchell covered a variety of notable news issues, such as the arm control, budget taxes as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended various summits while in the company of President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
